Chester racegoers refused to let the wet weather rain on their parade as they donned their finery for Ladies Day at Chester Racecourse.
The annual Boodles May Festival, billed as the ‘pinnacle of Chester’s social calendar’, kicked off yesterday and will run until Friday 10 May.
Umbrellas proved to be the number one accessory of the day, as the heavens opened on the track – with further downpours expected this afternoon.
Despite the damp and chilly conditions, eager female punters dressed to the nines in a bid to be crowned Ladies Day’s Best Dressed guest.

Yesterday’s similarly wet weather will have left the plush green grounds damp and soft, but that didn’t deter most ladies from opting for high platform shoes and stilettos.
Today’s action-packed schedule features a number of competitive handicaps and top-class Group races.
The Ormonde and Dee Stakes will be the feature races of the day, with Morando and Circus Maximus tipped to be favourites in both races respectively.
