A company has created a CBD-infused workout line with promises the clothing will target specific muscle groups with the marijuana-derived substance when worn during exercise.
The New York City-based company called Acabada launched its line of CBD-infused workout clothing after noticing the benefits people were experiencing when using the item in products ranging from skincare to food.
‘We had the thought: “What if recovery could start from the moment you get dressed?”’ The company wrote on its website when detailing the new line.
New concept: Acabada is a New York City-based clothing company that recently launched an activewear line for women infused with CBD
Pricey: The clothing line starts at $125 for a sports bra and $160 for leggings
Its clothing line created for women features a $125 Lafayette Sports Bra specifically meant for ‘your higher intensity workouts’ and infused with four grams of CBD, which will last up to 40 washes for the wearer.
‘The Lafayette Sports Bra is your day-to-night, all-purpose, performance bra,’ the brand advertised online, adding: ‘With a square neckline and breathable cut-outs, the Lafayette Bra is as functional, as it is fashion-forward.’
Another sports bra in the workout line, called the Ludlow Sports Bra ($125), features a different design and comes with five grams of CBD infused in the fabric. It also promises to help with performance.
So what does it mean for CBD to be in contact directly with the skin?
Acabada first explains online that CBD, or cannabidiol, is not the strain of the marijuana plant that causes the high feeling one might get when smoking a joint — that’s THC.
CBD, instead, is used often as a relaxant. It has also been cited to help with depression, anxiety, seizures, insomnia, and muscle pains.
The company claims it used ‘cutting-edge technology’ called micro-encapsulation where the CBD is encapsulated in a protective polymer coating. This coating allegedly protects the CBD from being damaged by ‘evaporation, oxidation and contamination.’
Innovative: CBD is infused into the fabric in capsules, which the company claims is released onto the muscles after the friction of working out
The benefits: Studies show CBD can help with anxiety, depression, and even muscle pain
Following the trends: Acabada decided to take this research and create a clothing line that would provide CBD directly onto the body when workout out
Then the capsules are placed in the clothing items around major muscle groups of the body to help during the workout.
The idea is that once the body starts moving and creating friction with the skin against the clothing item, the capsules will release streams of CBD to help those muscle groups.
‘This is where the CBD works its magic, helping you to pursue proactive living and a lifestyle based on natural health and wellness,’ the company wrote.
CBD oil used directly on the muscles has grown in popularity by people claiming it helps with inflammation, muscle spasms, and any pain, according to Clinician Today.
Acabada decided to capitalize on the growing popularity of CBD by producing an athletic line of not just sports bras, but also leggings and workout tops.
But research remains minimal on if wearers will experience a change in their body when wearing the CBD-infused clothing items.
