Five-year-old and his dad publish a children’s book about the pandemic

A Georgia five-year-old and his dad wrote a children’s book to help other kids understand and cope with the pandemic.

‘Wade Through the Pandemic’ was written by Wade Williams and his dad Joshua and published on October 2.

The illustrated book follows Wade during his own pandemic experiences, including having to wear a mask, staying home from school, and waiting for his grandma to recover after she got sick from the virus.

Like most people, Wade experienced a series of ups and downs this year as COVID-19 swept the US and changed lives.

He hasn’t been able to go to school or see his friends, he’s learned to wear a mask when he goes outside, and he and his family worried about his grandma, who contracted the virus but has since recovered.

Luckily, it hasn’t been all bad: He also welcomed a little sister named Celine, or CC for short.

But with kids around the world struggling with this new fear, Wade wanted to do something for others.

‘It all started by him saying “Dad I really want to help. I really want to help people,”‘ dad Joshua told CNN.

So together, the two wrote the book about Wade’s life this year, including helpful tidbits to encourage other kids to keep their heads up.

‘That was our sole purpose of writing this book. Just to let other children know, we know that this is a tough time. We’re not sugarcoating that everything is perfect. Everything is not perfect. But it will be OK,’ Joshua said.

Some of those helpful tips including telling kids to close their eyes and count to ten when they get upset, or to go outside for a walk.

The illustrations also show Wade’s life as it has been during the pandemic, with images of the little boy wearing an outer space-themed face mask.

The book, which was published earlier this month, is  currently listed in the top 100 in Children’s New Baby Books on Amazon Best Sellers.
