New ‘guilt-free’ Belgian chocolate snack bar is just 2g of sugar and has a waiting list of 4,000

A new guilt-free chocolate bar is in town – and it’s already got a celebrity following and a 4,000-strong waiting list.

Dubbed the ‘future of healthy snacking’, the Battle Ready Fuel Triple Chocolate bar was created by nutritionists and ex-Special Forces Operative Ollie Ollerton, who starred in Channel 4’s SAS: Who Dares Wins.

The £2.49 bar contains just two grams of sugar – compared to the 20.8 grams in a Mars bar – and 234 calories, and has a Belgium chocolate coating.

It’s dropping in B&M stores nationwide and the Battle Ready Fuels website today.

It already counts Olympic gold-medallist Victoria Pendleton, footballer Wayne Bridge and Love Island star Camilla Thurlow among its celebrity fans.

It’s aimed at helping the 60 per cent of Brits who snack daily balance out their sugar-fuelled habits and reduce that sluggish feeling after consuming a sweet treat.

Its makers claim the gluten-free, on-the-go nibble is the ‘future of healthy snacks’ as it sustains energy levels all day long, boosts calorie burning, curbs hunger between meals, lowers blood pressure and helps to maintain a healthy weight.

‘The market is flooded with broken promises when it comes to healthy snacking,’ said Ollie.

‘What we should be asking is how healthy is healthy snacking?’

It was while training for his demanding Strongmen Expedition at Mont Blanc that Ollie went on the hunt for a healthy snack that would fuel his body on the go.

After trying hundreds of so-called healthy bars on the market, he found there was nothing that delivered low sugar with high protein and carbs – an essential formula for maintaining energy levels.

‘I was horrified by the amount of sugar and fat content in these bars – they are worse than a chocolate bar!’ he said.

The Battle Ready Fuel hand-blended artisan bar is packed with 100 per cent natural ingredients and a creamy mellow couverture chocolate flavour with no added refined sugars.

It delivers a low level of carbohydrate (approximately 11g per bar) and a blend of proteins mixed with chicory fibre and pink Himalayan salt to optimise release at different rates of absorption, delivering a sustained release of amino acids over a longer period of time.

Brits spend more money on chocolate than any other European country; the UK was recently named the most overweight nation in Western Europe, with the obesity rate rising faster than in the US.

Around 27 per cent of Brits are now clinically obese and another 36 per cent are overweight.

‘The UK is the sixth most obese country globally, with recent reports from the NHS claiming obesity-related hospital admissions have risen by an alarming 15 per cent,’ Ollie observed.

‘Yet the global health snack market is worth $32.88 billion, indicating we should be healthier than ever.

‘Healthy snacking can be very misleading, with many brands fuelling the UK’s obesity levels with sugar and fat-loaded snacks which claim to be “healthy”.

‘I wanted to launch a truly healthy snack that delivered all the nutritional benefits the body needs to stay focused and energised – and also tastes good.’

It’s already proving popular among social media influencers and sportsmen and women.

Athlete Tom Coleman posted to his 1.2 million followers: ‘Having tried literally 100s of healthy snacks, this is by far the most intelligent – everything you need for healthy snacking on the go.’
